Captain Americas Dad died

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Comic artist and author Joe Simon has died on Dec 14th 2011 at the age of 98. Together with Jack Kirby he was one of the most important creators in the golden age of comics. They invented lots of characters, the spangled hero being the most important. He was the ultimate opponent against Germanys dictator and the ultimative national symbol. If you compare their original costume design with later concepts you can see how strong Joes and Jacks idea was: none of the later reached their impact. Simon was even more succesful with a famous series called Young Romance. These and lot of other facts are written in an interesting article at the Guardian.
Thank you for being here, Joe Simon, and donating us with your ideas and creative ness. >via plus his > autobiography

And here is a very interesting interview with Joe. (If you click on further you will find a video with fans giving him a brithday song on his 98th – that´s why it is worth working on things people love and appreciate!)

Geschenk für robuste Naturen

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Schmerzfreie Naturen zocken vielleicht dennoch weiter. (VIA)

The Studio

Friday, December 16th, 2011

The StudioThis book is THE ULTIMATIVE POP ART BOOK! And: I LOVE IT! In 1975 Jeffrey Jones, Barry Windsor-Smith, Michael William Kaluta and Bernie Wrightson formed The Studio, the blueprint for all illustrators menagerie ateliers from then on, in the middle of Manhattan, center of the volcano called comic & pulp industry. Though young they were not only among the best-known, top-ranked and innovative narrative artists. They also formed the avantgarde of their species crafting a hippiesk neosymbolistic premangamäßig illustration style. No one ever after reached this level and this book compiles their masterpieces, what a joy!
To admit: I always geared to get this book, published in England in 1979 by Dragon’s Dream and long-time not available. And now it is there, thank amazon! Never ever let it go. Order of the day: >BUY!

La caste des Méta-Barons, Intégrale

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Barry Windsor-Smith: Opus and Storm

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Barry Windsor Smith is probably the most famous artist of “The Studio”-group. His work is most famous for drawing Conan, imagine this character being an elegant and naive figure, much more Perceval than Schwarzenegger, absolutely not the Conan clichee but immensly important for comic art development.

I love these two books: OPUS 1 gives an overview, Storm: Lifedeath is an ultimate masterpiece in comic art. Just view his maner setting lines and emotions, composing pages and tensions, go >via 1 and >via 2

Jeff Jones: Life could be an Idyll

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Jeff Jones is one of the most interesting illustrators whose work I have ever seen. Born as Jeffrey Durwood Jones he/she died as Jeffrey Catherine early in 2011, passed away, what a great loss! Jeff Jones was a member of “The Studio”. I do not know any other artist being just as soft, easy, swift and genial in handing a brush illustration.

Here are two articles: 1st the Wikipedia article, 2nd an interview by Laurie J. Anderson for sequentialart.com, 3rd one on JVJ Publishing, all are very much worth reading. To honor Jeff Jones please view and buy his work. His masterpiece “Idyll” is hard to get. But here is a new book just published: “Jeffrey Jones: A Life in Art” which will be a great pleasure for anybody loving extreme good illustration. >via

CREEPY: Bernie Wrightson

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

My mission is to reintroduce the champions and master craftsmen of comic art. Please welcome: Mr. Bernie Wrightson! This book, which I´d like to recommend to your attention, is a collection of his masterpieces in horror and astonishing tales: “Creepy Presents: Bernie Wrightson: The Definitive Collection of Bernie Wrightson’s Stories and Illustrations from the Pages of Creepy and Eerie”. Bernie Wrightson formed an artists loft commune in New York together with Barry Windsor Smith, Jeff Jones and Michael William Kaluta who revolutioned comic art and ilustration, each of them and as a group … – which is a story for another day. So first buy this book as christmas present for your best friends. >via
