BJL Gentleman’s Pocket Knife

May 17th, 2012 by Edwin Silver

I finally have this beautiful pocket knife in my hand. It is a custom left-handed gentleman’s folding pocket knife with exposed flip-stem for one-handed opening. The body is African Blackwood enclosing a hardened steel blade. The flip action is light and smooth and within a few tries am able to quickly open and close the knife with ease.  The grip fits well in the hand and the moving parts have an elegance and refinement of fit forged with much care and attention.

The knife I had commissioned by the tremendously skilled Barry Leslie from Johannesburg, South Africa. Barry makes every part personally and each knife is unique.  I have seen a few of his creations from large 25 cm hunting and skinning knives to compact biltong knives.  Mr Leslie is also known for his Wild Board Sausages which I’m hoping to try on my next visit to South Africa.

Thanks again Barry.
